The Levelland Rotary Club was chartered by Rotary International on March 28, 1928. In the charter application, dated March 10, 1928, the following statement was written by Neil H. Wright, of Lubbock, Texas in regards to Levelland.
"LEVELLAND IS A GROWING WESTERN TOWN AND BIDS FAIR TO PROGRESS CONTINUOUSLY. THE CITIZENSHIP IS MADE UP OF RATHER UNUSUALLY HIGH TYPE BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL MEN AND THOSE OF US IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE ORGANIAZTION WORK IN LEVELLAND FEEL THAT A CLUB THERE WILL BE A SUCCESS."
Thanks to the citizens of Levelland, this statement is still true, more than 90 years after it was first written.
The Levelland Rotary Club is very active in community projects in Levelland and international projects around the world.
The Rotary Foundation Members of our club have given in excess of $200,000.00 to The Rotary Foundation. Over 100 Paul Harris Fellows have been given to members, former members or friends of the Levelland Club.
During the 2012-2013 Rotary year, the club and it's members gave $1,100 to Polio Plus and $6,500 to the annual fund of the foundation.
The club received three District Simplified Grants from the foundation in the amount of $750.00 each. With matching club funds, new library books in the amount of $1,500 .00 were given to Levelland's ABC School, South Elmentary and Capitol Elmentary. Each school received over seventy new children books for their library.
College Scholarships awarded during 2012-2013: Gano and Goldie Tubb Rotary Scholarship - $1,000 Burnett B. Roberts Boy of the Year Scholarship - $500 Burnett B. Roberts Girl of the Year Scholarship - $500 Levelland Rotarian Scholarship - $500
Camp Scholarships Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp - an intensive week-long training program that brings together youth and young adults. Its primary purpose is to further develop the good character and leadership skills of the great youth in our communities. Eight Levelland High School, two Whitharral High School, and three Sundown High School students attended the Camp in June.
Rotary District Diabetic Camp - youth who are diabectic learn to live and take care of themselves at this camp. The camp is sponsoredd by Rotary District 5730 with asssistance from the Texas Tech School of Medicine.
Community Service The club provides annual financial support to: Chamber of Commerce, Levelland Community Outreach, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, SPC Texan Club, Meals on Wheels.
